KAROO ALOE · Privacy

We collect almost
nothing, and we
would rather not.

No accounts, no newsletter, no advertising pixels, no analytics that follow you off this site. What little is processed is set out below in plain terms.

Who is responsible

KAROO ALOE is the responsible party for the personal information described here. Our information officer can be reached at hello@karooaloe.com, which is also the address for every request described further down this page.

What this site collects

Nothing you type
There are no forms, no accounts, no logins, no comments and no mailing list on this site. We have nowhere to put your details, which is the most reliable kind of privacy policy.
Server logs
Our hosting provider records ordinary technical data when a page is served: IP address, time, page requested, browser and operating system. These logs exist to keep the site up and to detect abuse, are retained for a short period and are not used to build a profile of you.
Email you send us
If you write to us, we hold your message and address for as long as it takes to deal with it, and then no longer than our ordinary correspondence retention.

Cookies

KAROO ALOE sets no cookies of its own and runs no advertising or analytics scripts. Nothing on these pages tracks you across other websites.

When you follow a link to Takealot

That is where third-party processing begins. Takealot's affiliate programme uses its own cookies and tracking parameters to attribute a sale to the site that referred it, and Takealot then processes your information as a retailer under its own privacy policy, which you should read if it matters to you. We receive aggregate commission reporting only: counts and totals. We never see your name, address, payment details or order contents.

Your rights under POPIA

  • To ask what personal information we hold about you, and to receive a copy.
  • To have inaccurate information corrected, or information we no longer need deleted.
  • To object to processing, where we rely on legitimate interests.
  • To complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa if you believe your information has been handled unlawfully.

Write to hello@karooaloe.com for any of the first four. We answer within 30 days, and sooner where we can. The Information Regulator publishes its own complaint process and contact details on its website.

Security and transfers

The site is served over HTTPS. Because we hold so little, there is little to lose — but access to the mailbox and to the hosting account is restricted and protected by multi-factor authentication. Our hosting and email providers may process technical data outside South Africa; where that happens, it is under the provider's standard contractual protections.

Children

This site is written for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it and the previous position is not quietly overwritten.
